► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In November 2023 I set out with my friend https://www.youtube.com/@Sheety33 on a backpacking adventure down in the Grand Canyon of Grand Canyon National Park. We hiked the Escalante route from Lipan point via Cardenas, Seventy-Five Mile Canyon, the Papago Wall, Squeeze and Slide to Red Canyon. Scott Hiked out at Red Canyon while I continued solo on the East Tonto Trail to Phantom Ranch, where I spent my last night. I then hiked up via the South Kaibab Trail.
Interested in doing this hike? Check out the travel guide (https://www.thatch.co/guide/25qs6l72adxs8) to explore this route. This guide has a day-by-day itinerary of this route and explains everything you need to know: how to obtain the correct backcountry permits, where to camp, where to get water, when to go, how to get there and more. Included is a Custom Google Maps and GPX files.
This is an ambient film without dialog.

I spent the night alone in the forgotten desert of the Pacific Northwest! This area, known as the Channeled Scablands, is a place where few backpackers ever go, probably because it's not what people think of when they think of Washington State, or the Pacific Northwest. Most backpackers head for the famous rocky coasts, or the legendary mountains of this region. But just east of those mountains, and often forgotten, is a remarkable desert that holds incredible geological significance and unique beauty unlike anywhere in the world! The deserts of Utah and Arizona certainly deserve their iconic status, but backpacking solo through this overlooked desert region left me with a deep love for its singular beauty, and a fascination for how its grand coulees have helped unlock the secrets of how the earth as we know it was formed!

Sintax77 is BACK on the show, and in this episode we're going over common beginner backpacking mistakes! The reason I'm calling these 'stupid' mistakes is because, well, I'm an idiot and I've made pretty much all of these mistakes at one point or another. Sintax77 is the man, I'm so grateful he came back on the show, and I hope you enjoy!

I just figured out that there's a species of fish that is able to WALK ON LAND... literally. So I bought one, built a home for it, and kept it as a pet. I did all sorts of things like feed it live insects, and even built a parkour course to test it's jumping abilities. Watch to the end to see all that awesome stuff!

► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In September-October 2023, I hiked the John Muir Trail, a 350-kilometer (215-mile) long-distance trail that is often considered one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the United States. It stretches from Yosemite Valley to Mount Whitney (4,421m, 14,505ft) straight through the Sierra Nevada mountains, passing through Yosemite National Park, the John Muir and Ansel Adams Wildernesses, Sequoia National Park, and Kings Canyon National Park. Along the way, it passes over 9 major mountain passes: Donohue Pass (3,323m, 10,902ft), Island Pass (3,205m, 10,515ft), Silver Pass (3,180m, 10,433ft), Selden Pass (3,094m, 10,151ft), Muir Pass (3,558m, 11,969ft), Mather Pass (3,700m, 12,139ft), Pinchot Pass (3,797m, 12,457ft), Glen Pass (3,585m, 11,758ft), and Forester Pass (4,009m, 13,153ft). Along the way, I wildcamped and made 2 resupply stops, in Mammoth Lakes and Bishop.
Interested in doing this hike? Check out the travel guide (https://www.thatch.co/guide/pn4dewuv7ygg/view) which explains everything you need to know: how to get permits, how to get there, where to do resupplies, when to go, the weather, and much more. Included is a Custom Google Maps and GPX-files.

Budget Picks Here
Tent - Durston Xmid Sil. You can absolutely get a 3FUL Lanshan for under $200 but I really believe if you can get to it, The Durston X-Mid is a fantastic value at $240. For all the same Reasons that I bought the X-Mid Pro. My main concern with the 3F UL Lanshan is the small amount pf space you give up. Livability is important – https://geni.us/88OAW
Backpack – Granite Gear Crown 2 (On Sale) – The previous version of this backpack is what I started with when my base weight was 17lbs and I loved everything about it. Unfortunately I had to sell it to afford the next gear. The pack has simple features, you can remove the lid to make it lighter and uses durable materials. 60L IS a lot of room, but that’s all the better, because you don’t have to compress your clothing too much. – https://geni.us/XCL4
Sleeping Pad - Klymit Insulated Static V Lite ($85) – Year over year I keep looking, but nothing beats the 23in width, price, 30d durability, and reasonable 1.9 R value (2.7 R Value if you add a thinlite pad) https://geni.us/F13Xz
Hammock Gear Burrow Quilt – Hammock Gear no longer calls this an “economy quilt” but it’s still an amazing value. The biggest plus is you’re getting a quilted fitted to your specifications. For the exact reason I love KS Packs, I like Hammock Gear, because you get to choose what you want on the quilt. https://geni.us/wJ1QM

If we want to experience more of a trail then we must put in more miles on that trail. You don’t put in more miles by hiking faster. You put in more miles by hiking longer. The ability to hike faster varies with each hiker. But everyone has the same amount of time in a day to hike. In this video, I show how to hike longer, not faster.

In March of 2024, Otto and I thru-hiked the West Highland Way in Scotland, one of the most famous long-distance trails in the UK. Come join us for days 7 and 8 of our (wild)camping adventure where we got to the most iconic parts of the trail and finally finished the hike.
And (once again) we experienced all sorts of weather in just two days: Icy winds, torrential rain and beautiful sunshine…..
Happy hiking,

► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In January 2024 I hiked 200 kilometers in the heart of the Southern Alps on the South Island of New Zealand. I combined several routes into a continuous 7-day route, including the Cascade Saddle Route, Rees-Dart, Earnslaw Burn, Routeburn and Greenstone-Caples.
Interested in doing this hike? Check out the travel guide (https://www.thatch.co/guide/eu0dwzvv7u3q) to explore this custom route. The guide has a flexible 7-14 day itinerary split into 6 stages. It explains everything you need to know: how to get there, where to camp, where to stay in huts, when to go, the weather, and much more. Included are Custom Google Maps and GPX files.
This is an ambient film without dialog.

Gear that serves multiple purposes means less weight on our backs on adventures. These are five of our favorites:
1. Tyvek wrap is a waterproof barrier used in house construction. We use it as a ground sheet under our tent and for cowboy camping, as well as waterproofing for our sleeping pads.
2. Bear canisters are heavy and unpleasant to carry, but at least they make great chairs!
3. We don't bring sandals or camp shoes on our trips. We do like to relax our feet at camp, and loose shoes worn without socks make surprisingly nice slippers!
4. Tim once got poison ivy all over his face by using a jacket as a pillow. Now we loosely stuff our waterproof clothing bags and they are perfect for the job.
5. We save weight by using a tent that doesn't need dedicated poles. Hiking poles are the only poles our tent needs.

Hi, my name is Nikola Horvat - Tesla and I present to you my first solo documentary.
In summer of 2019. I went to hike Colorado Trail to find the reasons why do I hike. This was independent project and the movie was filmed, edited and written by myself. It was challenging to carry all of video equipment in my backpack, but I had a vision and a goal - I wanted to capture my inner reasons why I do hike and why do I always go back to long distance hiking.
Why do I hike won 3 grand prix awards and it was once a finalist and official selection on various film festivals:
Croatian travel festival/Dijana Klaric award 2020: 1st prize
Mosor film festival: 1st prize
3FoK, Bosnia and Herzegovina: 1st prize
Godollo film festival, Hungary: official selection
Kharkiv international festival of arts and travel, Ukraine: official selection
Lookout wild film festival, Tennessee, USA
Please consider subscribing, hit SUPER THANKS and share this movie :) THANK YOU
