Les lits des athlètes de Paris 2024 seront... En carton. Le sommier sur lequel dormiront les sportifs pour les prochains Jeux olympiques a été dévoilé au public ce jeudi 13 juillet. Entièrement composé de carton, il est cependant « solide » assure son concepteur. Et pour le démontrer, le PDG de l’entreprise japonaise Airweave n’hésite pas à ôter ses souliers et bondir énergiquement sur le lit, sous l’œil amusé des journalistes et des caméras. « Nous avons conçu ce lit en carton pour que trois ou quatre personnes sautent dessus. Parce qu’après avoir obtenu une médaille, les gens deviennent très heureux », s’amuse Motokuni Takaoka. En plus d’être en carton, ces lits, fabriqués en France, sont également modulables. Le matelas est divisé en trois parties différentes de fermeté variable, dont l’ordre peut être modifié. En entrant dans le village olympique, chaque athlète sera scanné et photographié. Une IA traitera les données pour établir la meilleure combinaison de matelas possible pour l’athlète, en fonction de sa taille, de son poids et de son sport. Ce modèle de lit avait déjà été utilisé pour les JO de Tokyo en 2021, dans le but d’être recyclés. Ils avaient alors beaucoup fait parler d’eux. Certains athlètes les avaient même humoristiquement surnommés « les lits anti-sexe » tandis que d’autres se filmaient en sautant dessus pour tester leur solidité. Fabriqués en France, les 16 000 lits en carton commandés par Paris 2024 à la société japonaise Airweave seront livrés entre mars et juin 2024 au village olympique.
