Qui dit torture dit supplice, châtiment, hérétiques, cages en fer, roues crantées et pieux pointus… Bref, pas mal de clichés nourris par nos imaginaires, comme au cinéma par exemple, qui a fourni des scènes atroces, mais aussi fascinantes, comme des divertissements macabres plutôt cruels. Et ce cliché est encore pire quand on parle de la fameuse “torture chinoise”, complètement fantasmée par les occidentaux comme un truc hyper pervers, sophistiqué, et à la pointe de la cruauté. Mais est-ce que ça ne serait pas plus compliqué, comme par exemple “notre” Inquisition, qui torture parfois, mais qui reste avant tout une police de la pensée, qui contrôle les populations en se basant surtout sur une tonne de paperasses juridiques ? Peut-être qu’en Chine aussi, il y a eu une méthode d’interrogatoire, des lois, des réformes qui ont impacté la pratique de la torture ? C’est ce qu’on va voir aujourd'hui !

De quoi avez-vous le plus peur dans la vie ? La peur, ça fait partie de nous, et donc des grandes mythologies. Mais j’ai constaté un truc : à chaque fois, le cataclysme qui fait peur, c’est un truc vraiment étonnamment simple, voire simplissime. Chez les Gaulois ? Le ciel tombe. Et tout le monde meurt. Les Scandinaves ? C’est un hiver, mais très très très très long. Et tout le monde meurt. Les Hébreux ? C’est une pluie, mais très très très très longue. Et tout le monde meurt. Ou l’Atlantide : c’est une terre qui sombre dans l’eau. Et tout le monde meurt. Mais attention, il ne faut pas se faire avoir : ces mythes fondamentaux qui nous semblent très bourrins, expriment en réalité des craintes très sophistiquées, caractéristiques de leur époque. Je suis quasiment sûr que vous ne connaissez pas encore la véritable origine de l’Atlantide, alors que je sois foudroyé si vous n'apprenez pas au moins un truc aujourd’hui.
