For the past two years, the Durban July has given a platform for young designers to showcase their talent, and through a foundation, supported fashion students through bursaries. Assistance has also extended to emerging fashion designers, who are part of eThekwini Municipality’s Durban Fashion Fair programme. This year, R100 000 worth of bursaries has been pledged for the Durban July Young Designer Award.

Le pays le plus pauvre du monde, le pays le plus dangereux du monde, celui qu’on connait à travers "Blood Diamond". C’est souvent comme ça qu’on entend parler de ce pays. On avait envie d'aller voir à quoi ressemble réellement le quotidien des gens qui y vivent.
En Sierra Leone, nous avons rencontré une hospitalité et une gentillesse impressionnantes. Malgré les enjeux sociaux et les crises que traverse le pays, la Sierra Leone ne peut être réduite qu'à ça. C'est un pays à l'histoire millénaire, possédant une culture d'une richesse incroyable et des paysages à couper le souffle.
C’est jamais évident de découvrir un pays pour la première fois à travers des actions humanitaires, mais les équipes d'Action Contre la Faim en Sierra Leone accomplissent un travail formidable et nous ont introduit à la vie quotidienne des sierra-léonais, avec ses hauts et ses bas.
En seulement une semaine, nous avons exploré qu'une infime partie du territoire, mais cette expérience nous a offert une introduction à la culture sierra-léonaise et ses habitants, qu’on espère avoir pu vous partager dans ce film.

Ismael Lo was born in Rufisque, Senegal, the son of a Senegalese father and Nigerian mother. Lo is the only one who became a musician. At first he only played for the joy of it and never considered performing, but then an older brother, who owned a club, asked him to play on a local television show. Lo said no the first time, and continued to study decorating and painting at a trade school, but a few months later he reconsidered and appeared on the show. He was an instant hit and this inspired him to think about performing full-time. In 1979, a singer/songwriter invited him to play in a band, called Super Diamono Ð a super group, , that played mbalax-blues. Lo, with his talent for guitar playing and song writing, quickly established himself as a key figure in the band and soon became the second lead singer, backup singer and rhythm guitarist. By the early '80s he found himself wanting to launch a solo career, but felt like he would leave a gaping hole in the band that could destroy it. In 1984, the pressure became too much and he left for Spain to do some painting. He began recording as a solo artist upon his return. Ismael Lo participates in creating an acute awareness of the hiv virus and the havoc it causes in Africa. He produced and acted in a mini-movie regarding the issue.
To date he remains actively involved in sensitising and informing Africa on the epidemic. Among his many talents besides singing are; painting, writing and acting.
