Mimi Webb prefers cozy environments for her performances – the UK newcomer has said she can communicate more effectively when there’s an intimacy at work between artist and audience. But Webb, who spent 2021 impressing fans with a string of tracks that began with “Reasons” and continues through “24/5,” better get used to singing in front of sizable crowds. Soon enough that etched voice, those poignant refrains, and the way the Canterbury native flaunts her passion while essaying romance is going to place her in bigger and bigger venues. With her two heroes Amy and Adele providing initial inspiration, Webb swept into view last year, soaring through “Before I Go” – it marked a ballad style both fresh and familiar. Buzz began, fueled by TikTok fame. Then she kicked off 2021 proving that Covid didn’t have to squelch anyone’s creative spark; the singer and two friends wrote “Good Without” during a Zoom session. Upon its April arrival, the hit became her first top 10 entry, and enjoyed a big-time marketing splash on a Times Square billboard. That was a telling achievement for the 21-year-old who wrote her first songs at 13 and first shared her work with the world three years ago. In her two Artists To Watch 2022 performances, Webb uses what she calls her “husky” voice to deliver goosebump music. “Heavenly” and “Half Way” are from her new EP, ‘Seven Shades of Heartbreak,’ which collects the best of her recent tracks as well. Fans in Europe and the UK will get a chance to catch her next year –a string of live dates stretching from Dublin to Cologne can be found on her website. Something tells us that those goosebumps will be prominent in each city she visits.
