Est-ce que ça vous arrive encore de croiser des gens qui confondent “arabe” avec “musulman” ? C’est surtout parce que l’Arabie est entrée dans l’Histoire mondiale au moment où elle est devenue le berceau de l’Islam au 7e siècle. C’est là que le prophète Mohammed a vécu, a fixé des lieux saints, et est parti à la conquête du monde. De fait, l’Arabie reste au centre de l’espace musulman, qui va de l’Espagne jusqu’à l’Indonésie ! Ok, mais l’Arabie existait bien avant l’Islam ! Okay, c’était pas l’Égypte ou la Mésopotamie, mais à la marge de ces empires, l’Arabie formait une plateforme du commerce mondial, où plusieurs royaumes sont devenus très prospères… Et c’est eux qu’on va découvrir aujourd’hui !
