Bien avant l’Holocauste, l’Allemagne a orchestré l’un des premiers génocides du XXe siècle, loin de l’Europe, en Namibie. Entre 1904 et 1907, le peuple héréro se soulève contre l’occupation allemande pour défendre ses terres. La répression est immédiate et impitoyable. Sous les ordres du général Lothar von Trotha, un "ordre d’extermination" est proclamé, déclenchant un massacre systématique.

Les survivants ne sont pas épargnés. Ceux qui échappent aux massacres sont envoyés dans des camps de concentration, précurseurs des horreurs du Troisième Reich. Forcés au travail forcé sur les voies ferrées et les chantiers de l’empire colonial, ils succombent à la faim, aux maladies et à l’épuisement.

Ce documentaire met en lumière cette tragédie oubliée et son impact toujours présent en Namibie.
