Son cynisme sous un masque de bons sentiments avec les petits producteurs de café. Ses engagements pour la planète alors que ses gobelets en carton ne sont pas recyclables. Ses produits de fast-food, ses frappuccinos ultra sucrés vendus comme du haut de gamme. Et ses petits arrangements avec les lois fiscales, Starbucks a été condamné par la Commission européenne pour concurrence déloyale à verser 25,7 millions d’euros de pénalités aux Pays-Bas où le géant avait un moment installé son siège européen.

Dans le même temps Starbucks s’implique dans la santé et l’éducation de ses employés. Dans l’Amérique dirigée par Donald Trump la marque soutient le mariage gay, incite ses clients à aller voter et embauche des réfugiés. Howard Schultz, très populaire aux Etats-Unis, aurait pu devenir ministre du Travail si Hillary Clinton avait été élue, on lui prête de plus grandes ambitions jusqu’à la Maison Blanche. En façade Starbucks s’engage pour ses clients, pour ses employés et pour ses fournisseurs de café. Simultanément, l’œil rivé sur le cours de la bourse, la multinationale continue de grossir, inexorablement.
