Ils constatent que la température des mers tropicales pouvait atteindre 38°C, faisant disparaître toute vie marine.

En France, des paléontologues qui étudient les coraux préhistoriques découvrent que, lorsque les températures augmentent, les organismes s'installent sous des latitudes plus fraîches, mais leur croissance ralentit.

Des géologues de New York ont compris, à partir de l'étude de sédiments antarctiques et de récifs coralliens fossiles, que le niveau de la mer est monté d'environ 4 mètres lors de la dernière phase chaude
